The
Littlest
Mermaid
Once upon a time, under the big blue sea,
lived the littlest mermaid with her family.
Even though she had the
smallest tail,
it had the sparkliest golden scales.
The littlest mermaid loved to explore
all the coral caves, reefs an d more.
But she couldn't swim to the surface,
oh no.
Up there she wasn't allowed to go.
One day she was racing in
Coral
Park with
Emiko
Eel and
Steve the shark.
She said,
Let's swim up,
you can't catch me!
And she swam up to
the surface of the sea.
Her head popped out
above the waves.
Oh my goodness!
said the littlest mermaid.
She'd never seen the shining sun before,
or clouds, or birds, or boats, or shore.
But the most exciting thing she saw was
a long wooden ship with sails and oars.
Its flags gleamed like the mermaid's scales,
and a handsome prince stood by the rails.
He saw her sparkly tail.
Great
Scott! he cried.
A real mermaid! he rubbed his eyes.
Ahoy there! he smiled in a friendly way.
Ahoy !" she grinned and splashed away.
Just then,
huge clouds covered the sky.
A storm arrived!
The prince shouted,
Oh my!
Thunder rumbled and lightning flashed.
Big sea waves went crash, crash, crash.
Grisly grey waves were growling.
Horrible winds and rain were
howling.
The wooden ship rocked from side
to side.
Goodness gracious,
the poor prince cried.
Then the littlest mermaid suddenly saw
A sharp black rock the ship
was heading for.
Watch out! she yelled and pointed at it.
The ship swerved left,
so it didn't get hit.
Grizzly grey waves were groaning.
Horrible winds and rain were
moaning.
The wooden ship rocked from side to side.
I can't see the way
!" the poor prince cried.
Then the littlest mermaid suddenly saw a
whirling whirlpool right by the oars.
She stopped it like a cork with her tail.
Thanks to her, the ship didn't fail.
Grizzly grey waves were wailing,
hor rible winds and rain were yowling.
Crash!
Crash!
Crash!
Smash!
Smash!
Smash!
The big ship rocked and
lightning flashed.
Then the littlest mermaid
saw what to do.
Follow me! she called and smiled too.
She used her glittering mermaid's tail to
guide the ship like a golden sail.
The ship followed her through the waves.
The mermaid was so kind and brave.
Then, the sun came out and
the storm cleared.
At last!
The prince and sailors cheered.
The prince jumped for joy.
Hip hip hoo ray!
Littlest mermaid, you've saved the day!
The prince, mermaid and the ship's men
danced on deck and in the water then.
The prince gave littlest mermaid a medal for
being so brave and smart and special.
Thanks, she said, but I'd better go.
Bye!
And she dived into the sea as blue as the sky.
