Black man born, black man dies
Black man mourns, black man cries
Black man tries to wipe his eyes
But black man told
to raise his hands up high
Black man told he can't take a knee
Just shut up and dribble,
you belong to me
Black man stressed.
Black man sighs.
Black man learns
how to play both sides.
Black man wants.
Black man needs.
Does anybody care about what
the black man sees?
They tell a black man it's the home of the free but
won't let that black man live on they street.
Black man grief.
Black man pain.
Black man weeps because of
black man's shame.
Black man in chains built this thing.
America exists because of
the black man's frame.
black man's kids, black man's wife,
taken from his life, sold off twice, black man
anger, black man rage, but a black man can't show
that because of the black man cage.
Growing up, the
OG's used to tell me, as a black man, you gotta be twice as good,
you know, you gotta be twice as smart, twice as strong,
twice as pa tient.
Most importantly, they said,
you gotta be twice as careful,
Cause we don't got the margin
everybody else do.
Check.
You gotta be smart.
Smart.
Navigating how I'm living
in this black skin
Back then, had to watch out for the
Ku
Klux
Klan
In 2022, it's the new
Klux
Klan
Traded in the hood for a gun and a badge
But you trying to blame me
cause I ain't got no dad
When it was your own people
that sold us off
Broke up all our families
so you'd be well off
It's crazy that like 60 years later
we're still dealing with
symptoms of problems that are so deeply
embedded in the psychology of our nation
You know, we cry over bad fruit,
but we don't realize it's the byproduct of bad roots.
We gotta get to the root of the issues.
